Realme is one of the youngest brands in the crowded Indian smartphone market. From day one, the company has been competing with the Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup. It has sold more than 5 million units of the newly launched Realme 3 that too in just three weeks. As announced during the Realme 3 launch, the company today came up with the Realme 3 Pro. It will be competing with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro in the budget mid-range segment. With Realme and Redmi smartphones, the users are getting best in class specifications at a very competitive price. Now, let’s compare the newly launched Realme 3 Pro with the Redmi Note 7 Pro across four different segments.
Looking at the current trend, its obvious to expect these two devices to come in gradient finish body. Both the devices come with a glossy finish polycarbonate body which can easily attract the fingerprints. With the candy bar-shaped phones, we know there isn’t much space for innovation and none of these smartphones are going to win the best smartphone design award. Both the device comes with waterdrop notch display on the display with a noticeable chin at the bottom.
The bumped out dual camera setup is placed on the top left corner on these two devices. We can also spot the circular fingerprint scanner on the rear. Both the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge and shouldn’t be a problem for most of the uses to reach them. While the Redmi Note 7 Pro comes in Neptune Blue, Space Black, and Nebula Red color options. the Realme 3 Pro will be available in Carbon Gray, Nitro Blue, and Lighting Purple.
While the Realme 3 Pro comes with last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform, the Redmi Note 7 Pro sports the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform. Here is where things get interesting — while one comes with a better CPU, the other one offers a better GPU. The Kryo 360 CPU on the Snapdragon 710 SoC comes with 2x Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. On the other hand, the Kryo 460 CPU comes with 2x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.7GHz.
With the newer Cortex-A76 cores, the Snapdragon 675 has a slight edge over the Snapdragon 710. However, the Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform built on the 10nm FinFET node should be more power efficient than the 11nm Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform. Even the older Snapdragon 710 with Adreno 616 GPU should be offering better gaming performance than the Snapdragon 675 with Adreno 612 GPU. Also, the Snapdragon X15 modem on the Snapdragon 710 SoC offers better download speeds than the Snapdragon X12 modem packed into the Snapdragon 675 SoC. In real-world usage, the optimizations done on the software front will also have a huge impact on the performance output.
The Realme 3 Pro runs on the latest ColorOS 6.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 7 Pro also comes with Android 9.0 Pie but with MIUI 10 skin on the top. The Xiaomi phones running on MIUI 10 comes filled with Ads all over the UI including the system apps. During the launch presentation, Realme even mentioned ‘No ads on UI’ for their smartphones. Both the devices come with heavy customizations on the software part. At least, the Realme 3 Pro gets the app drawer with the ColorOS 6.0.
The navigation gestures are available on both the devices and the users can enjoy the full view experience with no distractions. There are quite a few bloatware apps on the devices which can be manually uninstalled. These two devices come with their respective gaming modes which enhance the gaming experience. Talking about future software updates, expect the companies to release the updates only after several months delay. While there is a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, both the devices offer software-based face unlock using the front camera.
While everyone expected the device to come with Realme 3 Pro to come with 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor, it actually came with a 16MP primary rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 5MP secondary depth camera with f/2.4 aperture. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is currently the most affordable smartphone to sport Sony IMX586 sensor. It comes with a 48MP + 5MP dual rear camera setup with f/1.8 aperture. While the 48MP photo on the Redmi Note 7 Pro does offer extra bit of details, the users can’t make it as a default option. Both the device comes with AI-based auto scene detection which changes the camera options based on the scenes.
However, the 48MP mode on the Redmi Note 7 Pro doesn’t work when the HDR or AI modes are enabled. Coming to the Realme 3 Pro, it got the Ultra HD mode to shot 64MP photos using the 13MP sensor. While the Realme 3 Pro shoots super slow motion videos in 960 fps, the Redmi Note 7 Pro slow-motion limits to 120 fps. Talking about the selfies, the 25MP front camera on the Realme 3 Pro clearly beats the Redmi Note 7 Pro’s 13MP sensor, at least on paper. The AI beauty and portrait modes are available on both the devices to further enhance the selfies. Stay tuned for the dedicated camera review to see the real-world comparison of the Realme 3 Pro and Redmi Note 7 Pro.
